With the UK and Ireland experiencing changeable weather in the first quarter of 2025, we’ve seen a rise in domestic oil spills.
At the start of the year, cold weather and high winds created issues for those using oil central heating. As we mentioned in an earlier blog post, these conditions can create problems with older tanks. Any that are nearing 10 to 15 years old can start to show signs of wear.
April has started warmly with long, dry spells. But meteorologists are predicting cooler, wet and blustery weather in the Republic of Ireland and the UK ahead of Easter.
With stark variations in temperatures, older domestic oil tanks are being tested to their limits. Much of the past week has seen areas of the UK and Ireland basking in warm sunshine. But mornings are nippy with frosts in some areas.
And now a windy, wet and cooler spell means those tanks are likely to be given a real battering.
Our approach to domestic oil spills
The start of 2025 has seen us being called to a rising number of spills from domestic oil tanks. Our approach is always the same: to respond as quickly as possible and make sure the spill is contained.
We have more than 15 years of experience dealing with oil and chemical spills across different environments. Our aim is to prevent waterways and properties from being contaminated by oil spills, whether they are diesel, kerosene or another fuel.
It is our passion to deliver the best service to residents to keep disruption and inconvenience to a minimum. And it is this level of service that has resulted in many humbling responses from residents who have experienced a domestic oil spill.
As part of our commitment to improving our service, we always request feedback from our clients and customers. We aim to always get things right but if we haven’t reached our normal high standards, we like to know. It means we can learn from it so that we can take measures to ensure those problems are ironed out.
What domestic oil spill clients say about us
We have had some amazing comments over the past months. And we thought we would share these with you. The comments have been made via our feedback form.
Professionalism and passion
Slawomir: “As a production manager for a construction company, I have worked for almost 20 years with various suppliers, subcontractors, self-employed people and general workers. Honestly, I have never met people who did their job with so much professionalism, passion and personal contribution from the first to the last day of work.
“At the beginning I was given very clear information about the reason for the work, the stages, we agreed on the time schedule and details, the daily progress and the plan for the work.
“While they were working on the heating system, they temporarily connected the line to the house, so I never went a day without heating.
“At the end the site was left in better condition than it was at the start. New concrete surface, the shed was moved to its current location, all equipment was cleaned and put back as it was, new soil and grass seed in damaged areas, all trash removed, and the driveway brushed and cleaned.
“Usually, if someone digs up half of your garden, you don’t feel too comfortable, but in this case, ATG Group did it in a way that caused as little disruption as possible to all house members and also to the neighbours. I highly recommend the team, as work with them was a real pleasure.”
Above and beyond
David: “Fast, reliable, tidy and accommodating. Went above and beyond expectations. Nothing was too much for them to complete.”
Kept up to date
Gary: “I found ATG to be very professional in all aspects of their work. Adam made the whole experience flow seamlessly and kept me up to date at all times.”
Kind and respectful
Scott: “All of the team were fantastic, especially Stephen and Paul who were onsite every day. Both were very kind, respectful, kept us informed when they needed to and confirmed any adjustments before carrying them out. They worked super hard to get the job completed as quickly as possible. Both cleaned up thoroughly every evening, avoided disruptions where possible, advised us accordingly and we really felt they went the extra mile.”
