The people in our business: Cameron Pollock

The second in our occasional series, where we meet members of the ATG Group team, introduces Cameron Pollock. With many years of construction and environmental experience behind him, Cameron also shares some exciting plans for our future.

Let’s introduce Cameron.

What is your job with ATG Group?

I am Project Director and ensure projects meet the required timescale and standards and they are completed safely. After working at our head office in Ireland, I am now developing the market in Scotland.

What do you do for ATG Group?

I meet developers to find out more about their requirements and produce options for them so they can clean up their sites ahead of development. My job is taking their request from cost projection to processing the plans. I then make sure the projects are completed to the highest necessary standards while meeting safety requirements.

When did you start with ATG Group?

I was taken on in 2016 to develop the market in Scotland.

What did you do before then?

I have had a varied career and began as a land surveyor when I left university. After that, I progressed to site engineering for larger companies, such as Balfour Beatty and Interserve. I then decided to become a freelance site engineer for many companies and gained a variety of experience in construction: from railways to substations then to roads and houses as well as industrial sites. I then went into a business partnership and we started a groundworks company. We were contacted by an environmental company to carry out works in Scotland and I helped developed that. We carried out excavation and the mixing of contaminated soils and we did that for 5 years. After that I went freelance again.

What do you love about your job?

I like the challenge of following up requests and turning them into projects. Also, I am passionate about developing relationships, including looking after our clients as well as meeting potential clients. I enjoy working with everyone at ATG Group. There’s a real team spirit and you get the backing of the whole team when needed. But at the same time, you also get chance to work on your own initiative, so it’s the best of both worlds.

What are you planning in the future?

My vision is to increase and develop the turnover and profits of the company. One of the projects I’m looking at is opening a treatment facility to take contaminated materials and clean them up. This means the material is diverted from landfill and it can either be taken back to site or sent to another site as fill material rather than to landfill. It’s more sustainable, lowers the carbon footprint and is a cheaper alternative than contractors sending contaminated material to landfill.

What do you do in your spare time?

I have played rugby since I was 12 for various clubs and enjoy playing and watching it. I’m a supporter of Glasgow Warriors. When we’re not in lockdown, I like socialising with friends and colleagues. I’m now playing golf but I’m very much a novice. I want to get further involved with it. I also enjoy music going to concerts and also playing the guitar, though I don’t do it as often as I should.

What’s your favourite meal?

Indian food is definitely my favourite, so it would be an Indian meal.
